Oh But I Hate directives. Going back to just, "Hello!"
Hm. Not as much as you need for that Probably. The bees are mostly done for the year, and they need their honey to themselves. So we're running on a limited supply. But I'll look in our backstock by the time you get here for a Number. [...] You guys have lemon donuts?
Okay. Hello. It will be completely up to chance if we are good to each other.
We can make lemon donuts. I will use apple sauce, flour, lemon, and yeast, and fry them in lard. [...] They will not taste very much like donuts from before. Not to get your hopes up. And there are better bakers than me in the lumberyard. They can make tastier donuts, I'm sure.
[A baker's dozen of lemon donut holes, a bit lumpy. The donut holes have been delivered in a mason jar. Although ostensibly lemon-flavored, the donuts—humbly made and not too sweet—also taste strongly of apple. A note has been tied to the top of the jar with a bit of twine.]
At the party, or the next time she sees him, she does give John the jar back, about 1/3rd filled with a weird assortment of a few honey candies and sparkly plastic beads, because it's rude to give back a container empty.

[An unusual picture, difficult to identify at first: someone wearing a necklace made of sparkly plastic beads over, a black turtleneck. The lower half of the person’s face is visible, mouth arranged in a straight, expressionless line… Upon closer inspection, the necklace wearer and subject of the selfie is John.]
Hello, Evening. Thank you for the honey candies, the children enjoyed them. Lucy made a necklace out of the beads.

Date: 2024-11-07 06:05 pm (UTC)No need to thank. Good luck today, if you are venturing out to deal with the horde. And good luck, too, if you are sheltering.
